When Rick Santorum and Glenn Beck exchanged words last Thursday, I was surprised that the Earth didn't spin out of its orbit and into the Sun. I was surprised that the planet's core did not implode; that the atmosphere didn't dissipate; that Jesus Himself didn't appear before us in his golden armor - flaming sword in hand - to usher in the rapture. Why?
Because I was fairly certain that nature was supposed to abide by a strict set of laws, one of which being that two ignorant, pompous blow-hards like Glenn Beck and Rick Santorum could not share the same air space without the world - nay! - the universe ending.
Unfortunately, we're all still here. Just you, me, and....this:
“I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills. The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.”
Yeah. Feel that? Disgustingly uncomfortable, huh? Like... like "swamp ass." Ugh.
And that word. Indoctrination. It's getting used more and more these days by Right-Wing politicians and pundits. Lou Dobbs recently used it in reference to The Lorax movie being released next week, claiming that it was indoctrinating our children with the "liberal agenda." And yet I have a hard time seeing where all of this so-called indoctrination is taking place.
See, I go to college. Right now. And while I haven't had a class with every single professor on campus, I can tell you that the ones I have had are not pushing any agenda. Well, except the learning agenda. But Rick Santorum should know all of this seeing as how he did, in fact, go to college himself.
And this is only the tip of the ever-melting iceberg! Exhibit B:
Yes! Obama is a snob for wanting every American to have a good education. And I find it funny that he's the "president of class warfare," when you have idiots like Santorum running around actually dividing people based on educational aptitude: "There are good, decent men and women who work hard every day and put their skills to the test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor." Hah! Nobody said that non-college goers weren't working hard.
Stephen Foster Jr. over at Addictinginfo.org explains why he thinks Santorum is so anti-college - and he does it far better than I could.
"To put it bluntly, education makes America stronger, and Santorum is against that. Conservatives know for a fact that education improves the lives of Americans. When the economy is strong for everyone and college is accessible, those with advanced educations are paid better than those with just a high school diploma. Those with a college degree also have more opportunity to find employment and be successful. It’s clear why conservatives want Americans to remain uneducated. They want to create generations of Americans who will serve as cheap mindless labor drones for corporations and will adhere to conservative views of government and religion. In other words, conservatives want to destroy education so that they can more easily indoctrinate people. Higher education facilities provide the educational tools that create strong independent people with minds of their own. It gives people the ability to think for themselves which is trait conservatives despise."
Agreed! But there's one thing I'd like to add to that.
Rick Santorum. You are one of the many Right-Wingers today that I would not listen to about education. Period. I would rather hear the opinions of my cats.
And education definitely isn't a subject that either of them are familiar with.
